Quality Enhancement Plan

Quality Enhancement Plan

What is a QEP?
QEP stands for Quality Enhancement Plan. The QEP is an important part of our reaccreditation process, but it is also a significant opportunity for John Tyler Community College to examine our processes and help our students achieve success.

What is JTCC’s QEP?
Our QEP is called Tyler Connections: Making the First Year Count, and it’s all about improving the first-year experience and student learning. We picked the topic through a lot of research and evaluation, and we’ve worked hard to create a realistic plan to improve the first-year experience at Tyler over the next five years.

While the title talks about the first-year experience, the types of changes encompassed in the QEP – active learning, new student orientation and enhanced advising – will benefit all students, starting right now.

Why is the QEP important?
First and foremost, we are looking at the QEP as a way to improve our services to students and improve the student experience at Tyler.

The QEP is also a part of our reaccreditation process. Accreditation allows our curriculum to transfer to other accredited institutions, allows us to offer federal financial aid, and allows our degrees to be accepted by employers.

As a part of our reaccreditation process, a team from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), the College’s regional accrediting agency, will be visiting the College October 15-18, 2012. It’s possible that members of the team will ask students about the College’s QEP during the visit.
