STEM-H in the Summer

Calling all rising 4th – 12th graders who are explorers, helpers, creators, investigators, coders, analyzers, and answer-seekers. You are invited to take part in STEM-H in the Summer at John Tyler Community College.

In July and August 2017, Tyler and its partners are holding classes and camps designed for upper elementary through high school students who want to discover more about science, technology, engineering, mathematics and health care.

Tyler’s Exploratory Trails

Tyler’s Exploratory Trails give students the opportunity to discover the fields of information technology, life sciences, or engineering technology through hands-on experiences and experiments. Whether you are interested in cybersecurity, biology, precision machining or welding, these camps are a fun way to try out the in-demand careers of the future.

Experience Trail participants spend two weeks learning computer programming, first aid/CPR or the basics of precision machining – all in Tyler’s high-tech labs. Participants can even leave camp with an industry certification!

MSiC Camp Innovation @ John Tyler Community College

The MathScience Innovation Center’s Camp Innovation offers more than 20 adventure-packed classes sure to inspire future scientists, researchers, coders, engineers and mathematicians.

Open to:

Rising 4th - 9th graders

Camp Hours:

Weeklong classes offered in half-day (9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.) and full-day (9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.) formats.

Health Career Explorers Camp

Today’s health-care careers are wide-ranging and encompass a variety of settings from hospitals, laboratories, and doctor’s offices to clinics, patient homes, and assisted living facilities. Southside Health Education Foundation’s Health Career Explorers Camp gives students the opportunity to learn more about these opportunities. During the camp, participants will get real-life experiences in health care and higher education settings.

Rising 10th - 12th graders

CCWA Summer STEM Camps

The Community College Workforce Alliance, a partnership between John Tyler Community College and Reynolds Community College, is offering fun STEM summer camps at Tyler’s Midlothian Campus and Reynold’s Parham Road Campus.  Participants can learn the basics of coding, make their own app, design a robot, and more!

Ages 8 – 12

Camp Hours:

9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.
