At this lecture, Alvaro Bedoya, Chief Counsel to the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Privacy, Technology and the Law, will discuss how modern technology is quickly outpacing the laws designed to protect privacy and civil liberties. From the use of cellphones to track crime suspects, to the use of facial recognition technology to tag your friends in photos and the use of cookies and other tracking mechanisms to monitor web use, Mr. Bedoya will explain the exact laws that apply to certain invasive technologies—and how they are consistently outdated or insufficient to protect what most Americans consider to be critical aspects of their privacy. The lecture will be followed by a brief question and answer session.
