Education and Child Care Scholarships

Chesterfield County Scholarship
(Scholarship ID Number 2084)

The Chesterfield County Scholarships are established to help John Tyler Community College students, who live in Chesterfield County, with the cost of tuition, books and fees.

Eligibility criteria include:

  • Completion of a scholarship application.
  • Must maintain a 3.2 grade point average (GPA) while enrolled, or for incoming freshman, must have graduated from high school with at least a 3.2 GPA.
  • Must be enrolled as a full-time student at John Tyler Community College.
  • Preference will be given to students majoring in the following programs: Police Science (AAS), Early Childhood Development (AAS), Early Childhood Development – Teacher Assistant Specialization (AAS), Transfer Degree (AS, AA), or EMT’s returning for a Nursing (AAS) degree.
  • Must live in Chesterfield County.

Doster Via Family Scholarship
(Scholarship ID Number 2063-005)

The Doster Via Family Scholarship is in memory of Dr. William C. Doster and in honor of Ms. Sandra D. Via. Dr. Doster inspired young minds for over 30 years as an English professor at Miami Dade Community College and the College of Dupage in Illinois. His love for English and passion for teaching led his daughter, Sandy, to follow in his footsteps. Sandy Via taught at John Tyler Community College as an Associate Professor in English for 19 years before retiring in 2011. The Doster Via Family Scholarship is designed to assist John Tyler Community College students pursuing a transfer degree program in General Studies or Liberal Arts with the cost of tuition, books and fees.

The following criteria must be met:

  • Complete a scholarship application.
  • Must maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) while enrolled, or for incoming freshman, have graduated from high school with at least a 3.0 GPA.
  • May be enrolled either as a full or part-time student at John Tyler Community College.
  • Must be enrolled in one of the following programs: General Studies (AS), General Studies – Psychology Specialization (AS), General Studies – Teacher Education Specialization (AS), Liberal Arts (AA), Liberal Arts – Theatre Arts Specialization (AA).
  • Must demonstrate some financial need.

DuPont Polyester Endowed Scholarship
(Scholarship ID Number 6017)

The DuPont Endowed Scholarship is designed to assist a student, pursuing an education at John Tyler Community College, with tuition, books and fees.

The following criteria must be met:

  • Complete a scholarship application.
  • Must maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) while enrolled, or for incoming freshman, have graduated from high school with at least a 3.0 GPA.
  • May be enrolled either as a full or part-time student at John Tyler Community College.
  • Must be enrolled in one of the following programs: Business Administration (AS), Engineering (AS), General Studies (AS), General Studies – Psychology Specialization (AS), General Studies – Teacher Education Specialization (AS), Information Systems (AS), Accounting (AAS), Architectural Engineering Technology (AAS), Business Management (AAS), Information Technology (AAS), Information Technology – Cisco Network Track (AAS), Information Technology – Computer Applications Track (AAS), Information Technology – Network Support Track (AAS), Information Technology – Program Development Track (AAS), Mechanical Engineering Technology (AAS), Mechanical Engineering Technology – Mechatronics Technician Specialization (AAS), Nursing (AAS).
  • Must demonstrate some financial need.

Edwin D. Jordan Memorial Endowed Scholarship
(Scholarship ID Number 6025)

The Edwin D. Jordan Memorial Endowed Scholarship was established in July 2003 by his wife, Nicole M. Jordan, in memory of Mr. Jordan. Mr. Jordan was a mathematics professor and original member of the John Tyler Community College faculty, serving for 36 years until his passing in June 2003.

The Edwin D. Jordan Memorial Scholarship is established to assist John Tyler Community College students, enrolled in a transfer degree program, with tuition, books and fees.

Eligibility criteria include:

  • Completion of a scholarship application.
  • Must maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) while enrolled, or for incoming freshman, must have graduated from high school with at least a 3.0 GPA.
  • May be enrolled as a full-time or part-time student at John Tyler Community College.
  • Must be enrolled in a transfer degree program (AA, AS).
  • Must have plans to transfer to a four-year college or university.
  • Must need no more than 20 credit hours to complete a degree.

Future Teachers Scholarship
(Scholarship ID Number 2063-008)

The Future Teachers Scholarship was established in 2007 by the John Tyler Future Teachers Club to assist a student intending to enroll in the General Studies – Teacher Education Specialization (AS) program at John Tyler Community College with the cost of tuition, books and fees.

Eligibility criteria include:

  • Completion of a scholarship application.
  • Must maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) while enrolled, or for incoming freshman, must have graduated from high school with at least a 3.0 GPA.
  • May be enrolled as either a full-time or part-time student at John Tyler Community College.
  • Must be enrolled in the General Studies – Teacher Education Specialization (AS) program.

Preston and Ann Leake Endowed Scholarship
(Scholarship ID Number 6034-002)

The Preston H. and Ann K. Leake Endowed Scholarship is established to assist students enrolled in any arts and science for transfer degree (except speech and theatre).  The purpose of the scholarship is to assist students who wish to transfer to four-year institutions and is available regardless of national test scores. The scholarship will assist a John Tyler Community College student with tuition, books and fees.

The following criteria must be met:

  • Must complete a scholarship application.
  • Must maintain at least a 2.8 grade point average (GPA) while enrolled, or for incoming freshman, have graduated from high school with at least a 2.8 GPA.
  • May be enrolled either as a full or part-time student at John Tyler Community College.
  • Preference will be given first to a student enrolled in a transfer degree program (AS or AA, except Liberal Arts – Theatre Arts Specialization).
  • Must demonstrate some financial need.

Southside Association for Early Childhood Education Scholarship
(Scholarship ID Number 2015)

The Southside Association for Early Childhood Education is sponsoring a scholarship for a student majoring in the Early Childhood Development program. The Southside Association for Early Childhood Education is affiliated with the National Association for Education of Young Children. The scholarship is designed to assist a student enrolled at John Tyler Community College with the cost of tuition, books and fees.

The following criteria must be met:

  • Completion of a scholarship application.
  • Must maintain at least a 2.7 cumulative grade point average (GPA) while enrolled, or for incoming freshman, must have graduated from high school with at least a 2.7 GPA.
  • May be enrolled as a full-time or part-time student at John Tyler Community College.
  • Must be enrolled in the Early Childhood Development (AAS) or Early Childhood Development – Teacher Assistant Specialization (AAS) program.
  • Must demonstrate some financial need.
  • Preference will be given to members of the Southside Association for Early Childhood Education.
