Why Study Abroad?
Studying abroad transforms the way you look at the world and yourself. Your awareness of the globe becomes more informed, complex, concrete, nuanced and sensitive. You become more confident, more independent, and better able to handle the unfamiliar and the unexpected. Your thinking gains breadth, subtlety and a far broader perspective. You become a citizen of the world.
Over the past decade, John Tyler Community College has helped students learn more about the world and themselves by organizing international education trips to places such as Greece, Vietnam, Italy, England, Scotland, Ghana and Peru. The courses we've covered have been just as diverse. Students have earned college credit in nursing, Spanish, philosophy, theatre, information technology and painting, all while immersing themselves in the communities and cultures they visit. And, whether you choose to participate in one or all three of the courses covered during a particular trip, you will be welcome to participate in all program activities related to the different academic disciplines.
VaCie-VCCS International Exchange for John Tyler Faculty, Staff and Administrators
Each year selected faculty, staff and administrators also participate in the VaCie VCCS International Exchange. The program pairs individuals from John Tyler and other VCCS institutions with exchange partners from the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and India.
