Placement Test Schedule on June 22 - Due to scheduled maintenance on the Virginia Placement Test (VPT), Tyler’s Testing Center is altering its VPT testing hours on Saturday, June 22. On that day, the last time a student will be allowed to start the VPT is 11:59 a.m. This is to ensure students taking the placement test have sufficient time to complete it before the system shuts down for maintenance. Declare a Major

There are three ways to declare a major at Tyler:

Select a major on your application.

New students can declare a major when they apply to Tyler. Simply select your chosen major on your application.

If you are not sure what you want to study, did not select a major when you applied, or need to make a change to your major, you have two more options:

Meet with an advisor in the Advising Center.

Advisors can help you select a major based on your goals.  If you are transferring from another college or university, bring a copy of your transcript with you when you visit the Advising Center.

Declare a major online.

Can’t make it to campus to meet with Advising? Complete the form at www.jtcc.edu/declareonline, and our advisors will work with you to declare your major without coming to campus.

What are the benefits of declaring a major?

  • You’ll have a clear path to graduation.
  • You’ll have the added support of an advisor familiar with your major, employment options and transfer opportunities.
  • Declaring a major is a requirement of financial aid and many scholarship opportunities.
