International and ESL Students
John Tyler Community College is authorized under Federal Law to enroll non-immigrant alien students. For more information, please write: IntlStudentServices@jtcc.edu or call 804-378-1216.
John Tyler Community College enrolls non-U.S. citizens who hold one of the following:
- a current visa,
- a letter from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services or Homeland Security; or
- a temporary/permanent resident card.
English as a Second Language (ESL) Students
ESL students should consult with the advisor for international students to determine which placement tests are necessary. See the steps to apply to Tyler as an ESL student.
Immigrant International Students
Immigrant International students who do not need ESL support follow the admission steps for:
- new student seeking a degree or certificate
- new student not seeking a degree or certificate or
- transfer student
If you are an immigrant international transfer student, please first read our transfer credit policies. We strongly recommend that students transferring from foreign institutions visit the Admissions and Records Office or e-mail email@example.com before pursuing evaluation of your international transcripts.
Whether you are a new or transfer immigrant international student, before you register for classes, you must bring original copies of all required documentation regarding your status in the United States to the Admissions and Records Office. Copies cannot be accepted. After this step is complete, the “service indicator” that has been placed on your myTyler account will be lifted, and you can register for classes.
