Harper Lee, one of the most well-known American authors of the 20th century has announced the publication of her second novel, Go Set a Watchman. After more than 50 years since the publication of the beloved classic, To Kill a Mockingbird, Lee’s first manuscript was discovered. After sharing with a group of trusted individuals, Ms. Lee has decided it is time to share her work with the world again.
Go Set a Watchman was the first work Lee started in her early writing career. After completing this work, she was advised to write a novel from the childhood perspective of Scout Finch. This second work became the American classic we all know. On July 14, 2015, readers will be able to discover an adult Scout living in Alabama during the Civil Rights era. According to Lee’s publisher, the novel will explore Scout’s father-daughter relationship with the aging Atticus and the racial tension in the south during this period in history.
