The annual Little Hats, Big Hearts project is underway. Volunteers around the community crochet or knit red hats for babies born in the month of February, with the goals of celebrating heart health, raising awareness of congenital heart defects, and encouraging families of newborns.

Want to get involved? You can knit or crochet a red hat for a newborn and drop it off at a JTCC library. We will send them to the local program coordinator after January 10. The hats will be distributed to local hospitals in the month of February.

Knitting is a great activity during winter break!

The Little Hats, Big Hearts program accepts hats that are made with red yarn. They also require the yarn be:

  • Cotton or acrylic
  • Medium to heavy-weight
  • Washable/dryable

Need some ideas on how to design your hat? Take a look at the program’s suggestion page here: http://www.heart.org/HEARTORG/Affiliate/Little-Hats-Big-Hearts_UCM_487734_SubHomePage.jsp#.
