Our college, John Tyler Community College (JTCC), has been selected to participate in a national study about how college students use news…and we’d like to hear from you.
- We ask that you participate in an online survey that should take about 12-15 minutes to complete.
- Any information that would identify you personally will be deleted from a secure server where the survey is being administered. Your responses on the survey will be grouped with other students’ comments and used in a summary of overall findings.
- By participating in this survey, you have a chance to enter a contest to win a $150 Amazon gift certificate (there will be one winner from the JTCC, whether you are enrolled at either the Chester or Midlothian campus).
- You will also help improve our understanding of misinformation and credibility in the news you receive, and, hopefully teaching and learning on campus.
Interested? Then, please visit the link that was distributed in your student email. This link will expire on Saturday, April 7. Your input is highly valued! Thank you for your time and participation.
More details on the survey:
Purpose of the Study: This survey is part of a national study about how young adults like you consume news and gather information.
Study Procedures: There are 20 questions that we would like you to answer. Please remember that your participation in the survey is entirely voluntary. Your response to each of the questions in the survey is optional and you may withdraw from taking the survey at any time.
Any information that would identify you personally will be deleted from a secure server where the survey is being hosted. Your responses on the survey will be grouped with those of other students and used in a summary of overall findings. Once the study concludes, the results from the data analysis will be kept in a locked file cabinet in the Principal Investigator’s office.
There are no direct risks or benefits for you in participating in this study. There is, however, the possibility that your input will help instructors improve their teaching.
Gift Certificate Drawing: We would like to thank you for your involvement by including in a drawing for a $150 Amazon gift certificate. If you would like to enter the drawing, you can sign up on the last page of the survey.
An individual drawing for each college will be held within two weeks of our completion of the survey on your campus. There will be one winner of a $150 gift certificate at each campus in our sample. If you decide to enter the drawing, please provide us with a cell phone number for texting or an email address so that we can contact you if you win. The sign-up form appears on the last screen of this survey. You do not need to fill out the entire survey to enter and be eligible to win the certificate drawing but you can only enter once.
Principal Investigator: If you have any questions about the research, you may contact the Principal Investigator, Dr. Alison Head at (707) 800-7590 or email@example.com. Findings will be published in an open access report in October 2018 on the Project Information Literacy Web Site, http://projectinfolit.org.
