Responsibilities: Provide front desk coverage as necessary and respond by phone and in person to a variety of questions from students, faculty, staff, and the general public. Refer, as necessary, these individuals to the appropriate office utilizing established protocols. Greet individuals in a helpful and courteous manner; using professionalism at all times. Complete intake information requirements as necessary and fulfill typing assignments as required. Sort and distribute the office mail and copy/shred/fax/scan documents as requested. Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
Required Skills: Proficiency in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite. Excellent interpersonal skills. The ability to use a multi-line telephone system and to present a professional image of yourself and the College both in person and over the phone. The ability to use a copy machine, shredder, and other office equipment is highly desirable. The ability to work an established schedule, once it is mutually agreed upon, is mandatory
Pay Information: $8 per hour
Special Notes: A student assistant in the Advising Center must be currently enrolled in no fewer than 6 college credits at JTCC and may be required to work until 7pm on some weekday evenings. It is expected that the student be present for the duration of his or her established daily work schedule and to e-mail the supervisor with any deviations as soon as they are known. Appropriate office clothing is required. (Jeans are allowed; but must not have any holes) Appropriate breaks and a lunch period are required based on hours scheduled in a single day. Depending on eligibility, the student assistant could possibly work up to 20 hours per week. It is understood that the student assistant may encounter confidential information and that he/she is required to keep all such data private.
