If you are requesting to be certified for the semester or informing us of an update to your enrollment please note the following:

  1. GI Bill benefits does not cover Follett Access/IncludED course fees.
  2. If you are changing from one benefit to another i.e., chapter 33 to chapter 35, please contact the VA directly to inform them of the change as your old benefit may automatically default for processing if you still have benefits remaining.
  3. I understand that I must submit a Request for Certification (RFC) each semester for my classes to be certified.
  4. I understand that I will assume full responsibility for delayed or incorrect benefit payments resulting from inaccurate information submitted on my RFC.
  5. I understand I will not be compensated for any class I have previously completed and passed based on program requirements at John Tyler or at another institution. I understand that I must have all prior credits from previous college and/or institutions evaluated within 30 business days of my initial certification for education benefits. This can be completed by turning in all official transcripts to the Admissions and Records Office. If I have completed an Associate's Degree, Bachelor's degree or higher, this information must be reported with my initial claim for benefits. Failure to do so will result in non-payment.
  6. I understand that grades of W and F may result in an overpayment from the Department of Veteran Affairs in which I will assume financial responsibility.
  7. An incomplete grade may be given when a student has been unable to complete a course because of an emergency situation. The time and condition of removal of the grade is a matter of contract between the student and the instructor. Generally, a grade of "I" will not be awarded unless a majority of the coursework has been satisfactorily completed and the remainder of the work can be completed within the following semester.
  8. I understand that the VA compensates me once a month based on the number of credits I am in AND are currently in session during the time of their review. For example: I understand I will not be compensated for a Second Eight Week Session class until the class begins and those credits will not be counted towards my enrollment until the class begins with the VA. I understand that means I may be full time per John Tyler standards for the entire term, but I may only be a half time student per the VA (not eligible for entire benefit) at the beginning of the term.
  9. I understand that I cannot be certified for any developmental online class.
  10. I agree to notify the Military and Veterans Education Office of any testing that will give me additional credits, certifications and or licensures.
  11. It is my responsibility to notify the Military and Veterans Education Office by submitting a new RFC if I change my program of study or add any additional programs of study.
  12. I understand that if I am using chapter 35 benefits, I can only pursue one Program of Study and completing a Dual Objective is not an option.
  13. 12 credits is considered full-time, a course load of 6 credits yields a rate of pursuit of 50% (6 ÷ 12 = .50), whereas a course load of 7 credits yields a rate of pursuit of 58% (7 ÷ 12 = .58). In this scenario, a Veteran would need to enroll for at least 7 credits (such as two 3-credit classes and a 1-credit lab) in order to receive the housing allowance benefits.
  14. Students using some GI Bill benefits (Chapter 30, Chapter 33, certain programs under Chapter 35, and Chapter 1606) are required to verify enrollment monthly to the VA.
