Tyler’s Currents Art and Literary competition offers opportunities for students to express themselves and share their creativity with our campus community. Submissions are accepted each spring; submissions are not currently being accepted.

Each spring, Currents accepts entries in:

Art (including photography)
Fiction
Creative non-fiction
Poetry

The rules for each category are listed below. All entries must be submitted electronically to mgray@jtcc.edu and must include the student’s EmplID. 

The contest is open to current Tyler students only. You may submit in multiple categories.

Art

Submit as high-resolution (300 dpi or better) jpeg.
Must be original work.
Cannot have been professionally exhibited or offered for sale.
Each art entry must be accompanied by an Art Release Form.
Art entries featuring any person other than the Artist/Photographer must include signed consent from that person (the bottom half of the Art Release Form). If the person is under 18, the legal guardian must read and sign.
Include Student ID and the title(s) of your work in the email.

Fiction

2500-word limit
Include Student ID and the title(s) of your work in the email.

Creative Non-Fiction

2500-word limit
Include Student ID and the title(s) of your work in the email.

Poetry

1500-word limit
Include Student ID and the title(s) of your work in the email.

Those who place first, second, and third will have their work published in Currents, receive a cash prize, and be recognized at the college's Annual Awards Night Ceremony. Honorable mentions may also be published if space is available.
