The Office of Career Services is currently helping new and current students prepare and register for fall semester classes. All student services continue to be offered remotely, and new and current students are encouraged to access these services from off campus. Starting August 10, John Tyler Community College will begin providing limited on-campus assistance for students who are unable to access services remotely.

Staff are available for assistance with resume and cover letter writing; looking for and applying to jobs and internships; preparing for an interview; or creating a LinkedIn profile.

Remote Assistance
Staff are available remotely by appointment Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 5:30 pm. Appointments can be made by emailing Ashley Pinney or calling 804-706-5166; it is requested that appointments be made 48 hours in advance. Phone messages and emails will receive a response within 48 hours.

In-Person Assistance
Staff are available by appointment Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 5:30 pm. Appointments can be made by emailing Ashley Pinney or calling 804-706-5166; it is requested that appointments be made 48 hours in advance. Each appointment will be 30-60 minutes, depending on the student’s needs.

Students requesting resume help should bring a hard copy or a digital copy on their computer with them to the appointment. At the Chester campus, students may also use the Professional Clothing Closet to select clothing for an interview, classroom presentation, or a job or internship.

Walk ins are not allowed due to the tightness of the space. When arriving, check in at the front desk with the student worker or with the Career and Internship Coordinator. Only one person may attend each appointment due to physical distancing measures. You must follow campus safety protocols while on campus.

 


Tyler Career Services assists students, alumni and community members in understanding their career-related interests, individual values and strengths. We guide students through picking a major and career, conducting a job or internship search, creating résumés and cover letters, building an online presence, assisting with interview preparation and career readiness, and networking/informational interviews.

We also build relationships with quality employers and connect them to Tyler talent through on-campus recruiting, career fairs and job and internship posts in our database.

Digital Career Advising

Tyler's Career and Internship Coordinator is available for phone and video appointments. Please email apinney@jtcc.edu to make an appointment. Students and alumni who have recently become unemployed and May 2020 graduates are especially encouraged to reach out.

Professional Clothing Closet

Students and community members in need of professional apparel for a career fair, interview, or job or internship, are invited to visit the Professional Clothing Closet at the Chester campus. Email the Career and Internship Coordinator, apinney@jtcc.edu, to schedule a time to visit. The clothing is free and yours to keep.
